I believe Nothofagus gunnii or more simply put, fagus, holds a special place in the heart of anyone who has spent time walking in Tasmania’s high country but especially those who enjoy photographing such places. It’s Tasmania’s only native deciduous plant and when timed right, makes for an incredible display of colour flanking the slopes of high peaks or encircling alpine lakes in certain areas.
Over the years I’ve aimed to position myself in the right place at the right time to make the most of the colour on display. Throughout the year I’m always on the look out for new locations and I now have quite an extensive list of places jotted on my phone to keep me busy for many Aprils to come.
This collection will continue to be a work in progress.
